What is IMLAC?
WHAT IS IMLAC? Imlac was founded in 1975 out of concern for a More effective approach to language learning and cross-cultural communication. These concerns led to an evaluative visit by Dr.Donald N. Larson, internationally known anthropological linguist. IMLAC is an active member in the MTI Congress, and other national and international linguistic bodies. WHY IS IMLAC IMPORTANT? Culture is all the values, beliefs, attitudes, and behavior patterns shared by a society. Culture is the “glue” which holds people together. When one makes contact with a different culture, it is not enough just to observe apparent differentces or similarities of dress, behavior, or artfacts. These external manifestations are only clues leading to the deeper meanings which we call culture. For example, within a culture all people may not be dressed alike, but all may be dressed “ properly” if each person’s attire accords with the values, beliefs, and attitudes that govern dress.
